I thought of trying for a remote job, but this is kind of like not having a home. I was really a lot more effective at the ESRF than working remotely. I like being able to see people in person, go to lunch, find them in their office, etc. Emailing and setting up remote calls has different dynamics.

This would help. There are some great synchrotrons in Eurpe as well (ESRF France; PetraIII Germany, ALBA Spain to name a few). Research grants are just smaller, and few vehicles of innovation-style awards, and the compliance burden is really a slowing fact.

This time featuring diamond anvil cells, higher temperatures, and diffraction! Thanks to our local contact Yimin Mijiti for going above and beyond for this experiment!
