For a time today I was out of reach of the internet in my hunt for #Snowdrops but then as I climbed the hill at Emmetts Garden @nationaltrust.org.uk in Kent I was rewarded with this sight. Uplifting. Hopeful. Please share

Happy new year from a very frosty Surrey. I decided to go back to those sunny summer days today to cheer me up as I imagine the heat of June or July and the scent of the garden as bees buzz about their business.

I took a loop shot of Roberto today, launching himself from a blue terracotta plant pot but it won’t transfer to Bluesky, so here’s the still version.

The grey clouds are gone and it looks like sunshine all the way with a heatwave forecast, so our patch needs watering morn and night. However, things are doing well and I found a half dozen again - with one outsider. Captions in alt text.

Soaking up the sun before autumn. A pale yellow flower in the gardens of Chartwell National Trust near Westerham, Kent, once the home of Sir Winston Churchill.

When the sun is out, the garden glows with reds and golds in early October and it makes choosing a #Stunday photo harder. This is my favourite today but by tomorrow, who knows. I love the way #Autumn shifts its colours.

This beautiful honeysuckle is in bloom and brightening up our garden.
Writing takes a back seat at this time of year. I'm just gathering ideas. Maybe Honeysuckle could be a character name.

A Butterfly bush in a neighbour’s garden continues to bloom as she deadheads each day; one of our Cosmos flowers; an Angelica by our path and the Salvia Rock and Bloom that has flowered all summer.

Had a great time at the RHS Hyde Hall Flower Show yesterday. The rose garden at Hyde Hall was looking every inch the picture of quintessential English summer, and the old barn was open and serving afternoon teas. #goodtimes

OK, I said no more tulips but I was taking in the bins this morning and just couldn’t resist one last photo of these as I came back. Sorry.

Little stars … the Periwinkle or Vinca herbacea gives great ground cover. The zinging purple flowers seem to glow in the Spring sunshine against the green leaves. Beware, though, they can take over. They have thuggish tendencies.

Our Sunflowers, grown from a free packet of seeds, are looking a bit raggedy, maybe as a result of the constant attentions of the bees. However, as this was the object of planting them, we can’t complain.

This little gem of a double Narcissus was planted along with other bulbs in a pot on our patio last year and did nothing. I left it alone and this week’s sun has persuaded it to bloom. The name tag has faded, so no ID.

So, after yesterday’s frost, it snowed this morning. Good job I had topped up the bird feeder. This Great Spotted Woodpecker seemed to appreciate it.

The hellebore that seeded itself in a crevice next to the wall surrounding our small back yard pond is thriving and glowing again after a week of sun. I think plants often choose their own environment.

These autumn mornings are so invigorating … even on a Monday. Our Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple) has turned a delicious shade of rusty purple and the morning dew glistens on its leaves. Have a great day.
