No no that was Elagabalus

"Trans people are a fad" Elagabalus. We've been here for well over a thousand years at minimum.

Offs. Idea there is direct unbroken line Athens > trump US is facile. trumpism is Rome at decline and fall. Caligula, Nero, Commodus, and Elagabalus are the trumps- noted for ruining the treasury, murdering political opponents, + exhibiting erratic or "mad" behavior that brought chaos to the empire.

“Edward Gibbon, notably, wrote that Elagabalus ‘abandoned himself to the grossest pleasures with ungoverned fury’”

Gibbon was such a fucking prude

Yes, they did. I didn’t make up reality.

There’s no such thing as “transsexual behaviour”. Elagabalus was not killed for being transsexual. Ignoring the fact that he predates the medical concept, he identified as male and was not killed for anything except being a bad emperor.

I think Christian /theory/ does approach it /differently/ to how it had been in Roman polytheism prior but also Elagabalus not worshipping Jupiter properly was basically seen as a national security threat given the likelihood the god would take offense!

Trump is like an American Elagabalus.

I only hate Nazis, whether they've foreskins or not, or amputated other bits of themselves for that matter or not either.
Bye now.
Elagabalus doubtless sends his regards!

SAVE DA DATE: my Noize alter ego will be performing at Esoteric Everett, the NO. 1 local noise show hosted at Artisans on Hewitt by the arena every last Saturday of the month!

(and likely final performance as Roses of Elagabalus cuz that's a mouthful no one can spell and not... furry enough)

After a brief interregnum in 217-218, the Severan dynasty returned to power... or did it? Was there really anything 'Severan' about Elagabalus or Alexander Severus?

You say : “NSW is now one of the most draconian anti-protest jurisdictions in the democratic world.”

Democratic?

As democratic as Rome was the republic it called itself, the "Senate and People of Rome" (SPQR), while emperors Augustus, Caligula, Nero, Commodus and Elagabalus ruled. And after.

compare a Julian, Napoleon, or Genghis Khan to a Caligula, Elagabalus, Nicholas II, or your average latter-day Hapsburg. stupid people have few avenues to obtain power in their own right and they're often very bad at even keeping it.

Emperor elagabalus?
February 7, 2026 at 7:51 PM
Plus it's possible Elagabalus was transfem I am not outright denying it

Btw that thing about "bottom surgery" is probably about castration, Elagabalus was foremost an Eastern priest and Emperor only second and castration was relatively common for priests in the East
Ouch
February 7, 2026 at 2:47 PM
themself the "wife" of a guy instead of husband and husband although that could also be Roman historians saying "Elagabalus was the bottom"
Problem is we have 3 sources on Elagabalus and they're all hostile accounts so lots of anti Elagabalus propaganda

But either way gender-non conforming
February 7, 2026 at 2:47 PM
Elagabalus is my favorite emperor unfortunately I think it's more likely that they weren't actually trans but a victim of Roman xenophobia towards Syrians (Syrian clothing was more feminine => Syrians were seen as feminine men) although that doesn't explain the accusation of Elagabalus calling

"The Historia Augusta contains a fabulous book on the life of Elagabalus." Fabulous - I see what you did there :-)

Whether or not the stuff written about Elagabalus was true, and a lot of it wasn't, they were a strange person and, ultimately, a very tragic one for whom I have a lot of sympathy.

Can't decide if Trump is Nero, Caligula or elderly Elagabalus
February 7, 2026 at 11:12 AM
Ephesians 2:8, remind us about "The grace we have now is a gift, available during our lifetime" because of christ's finished the work on the cross.

Only an irrational person would ignore the nemesis upon these fools;

Nero, Caligula, Commodus, Caracalla, Elagabalus, Domitian, and recently Gaddafi.
