I’m beginning to put assessments based on these continual cross time comparisons in the same camp as phrenology.

Look up familiarity bias. Cialdini to Munger recognized it independently.

We all went through extreme stress and have perpetuated bad vibes since. Hard to compare.
Americans in their 20s and 30s may not feel that they’re richer than their equivalents 60 years ago, but they’re objectively wrong.

It’s fascinating how important it is to some people not to say “I’m struggling, it’s hard” or “I need help”—objectively true—but to instead insist they have it worse.

11/12: True crime narrative? Spot on for mystery tactic—drip-feeds "clues" like a whodunit, exploiting need for closure. Per Cialdini, this sustains engagement, priming followers to accept her "resolution" (TPUSA bad, she good).

Nästa på tur är Power, det är en ögonöppnande bok som påminner mig om Influence av Robert Cialdini. Många av reglerna är avskyvärda och osmakliga, men oavsett vad man tycker om reglerna som lyfts fram är det alltid spännande att läsa om mentala fallgropar. Den är väldigt osvensk på så sätt.

Powinienem był dodać, że na manipulację podatni są BARDZIEJ ludzie niezbyt rozgarnięci. Całą resztę podtrzymuję, tym bardziej że, Cialdini z tego co wiem nigdy ani nigdzie inaczej nie twierdził. Żaden szanujący się psycholog nie będzie wypowiadać kategorycznych opinii na ten temat.

(Ik heb dat zelf ook gedaan, met volle overtuiging.)

Het vergroot de kans dat je consistent bent in gedrag als je hardop commitment geeft.
(Een van de beïnvloedingsprincipes van Cialdini.)

Daarom is het gedrag van Boon des te kwalijker.

Excellent podcast, not least for Dr Buchanan recalling the great Cialdini quote “The media doesn’t tell you what to think, it tells you what to think about”.

Distraction just as much a threat as disinformation to make some issues more or less salient.

Just retaught the Cialdini 95 last week and...I was surprised by it. In my memory it was much more of a challenge for inconsistency than it was upon re-reading.

I think this is a deep and interesting question. Can you say more about individual differences for consistency? Is it the Cialdini PFC scale you have in mind or geography of culture findings or something else?
