A5: Coming out of a tunnel at Savannah River Half. Felt strong and finished at a pace close to 2023 before three #brokenheartsyndrome #takotsubo episodes stalled my running. #runchat

💔 Did you know you can literally die of a broken heart? It’s called Takotsubo syndrome, and it happens when sudden stress or grief makes the heart muscle weaken.

A few weeks ago, even though it was mid-summer in central Ohio, it felt like fall. Due to my three #Takotsubo #cardiac episodes (aka #brokenheartsyndrome), I'm on #betablockers and they make me more sensitive to temperature variations. My runner friends laughed, but layers made me happy. #runchat

Brag: Shouldn't be a brag. Just another training run, but yesterday's nine-miler was a distance and pace PR for 2025. Still afraid this "comeback" will end, but so far, so good. #comebackkid #cardiacrecovery #runchat #takotsubo #brokenheartsyndrome

Pssst. You can WALK while you run. The run-walk-run method fashioned by Olympian Jeff Galloway is helping me regroup after three #Takotsubo #brokenheartsyndrome episodes. I use 15:45 (15 second run/45 second walk) intervals to build base and lower #anxiety. Running in this hidden ravine helps, too.

Brag: Five miles with the group yesterday morning at a pace I haven't seen in a year and a half! Very happy with this. #runchat #cardiaccomeback #comebackkid #takotsubo #injuryrecovery #brokenheartsyndrome

(2/5) 🐙 Why “Takotsubo”?
It’s the shape the heart takes—like a Japanese octopus trap.
Usually reversible, but sometimes fatal.
Often triggered by deep loss, especially the death of a child or partner.
Your heartbreak isn’t just emotional.
It’s physical. It’s real.
