If you're truly a bookseller and you're competing against billionaire online sellers, then you've got my support.

In 2026, I will be visiting a Nebraska or Iowa book store every Tuesday. Each week, in addition to my own finds, I will be buying a book to support one of my colleagues and help them keep their shelf space here.

What do you have out that might be in Midwest book stores? Keeping a list starting now.

My other best book of 2025 was "On The Calculation Of Volume" by Solvej Balle - specifically Book 2.

This is about a bookseller who finds herself waking up in the same day over and over. Like Groundhog Day, but quieter and more emotionally devastating.

Checking out Greg Egan’s books at my local bookseller - looks really interesting! Thx for the tip!

As we close 2025, Blackwater Press is so grateful for every reader, author, & bookseller who helped our stories find their way into the world this year. In 2026, expect more sharp, beautiful books from us. Stay tuned for cover reveals, launch dates, & event news as we turn the page on a new year.

Once Upon A Tome by Oliver Darkshire

The only non-fiction on this list! A very cozy and funny story about becoming an antiquarian bookseller.

Sources: All five Saunders titles are available exclusively on Kobo at this time (they have been withdrawn from other platforms) or some libraries. Diane Duane's e-books are available in most countries from ebooks.direct. The Lackey and Wells books are available from your favorite trade bookseller.

Good lord, it just keeps going with @academic.oup.com . The textbook for my Modern European History course has basically doubled since 2022, with paperback 300% more than ebook. This is clearly all a scheme to drive us into these “All Access” textbook packages. Grrr 🤬

IDK if anyone's into checking out what the bookseller reads, but if you are then I'll be updating the list throughout the year.

I won't have time to do full reviews, but I'll at least rate the books. I'll probably add a short take to most of them, too 👍🏼

I had some fantastic experiences as a bookseller and I love being able to share when folks were genuinely cool!

This is one of my favorite pieces of Kat the Bookseller lore. Well, that and telling Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman “nobody cares who you are.”
Alright - I’m quote posting this because it’s a fun story and we were all just talking about celebrity encounters. Fearnley wrote a book about his time in the pogues called Here Comes Everybody. He went on tour and did a bunch of bookstore stops. We were one of them.
Tell the story of the impromptu concert with Fearnly and Tim Brennan of the Dropkick Murphys.

I talk a lot in general about how important it was to me as a bookseller to watch how authors treated their fans and treated the staff. When I say that these two were the bar by which all other authors are measured? They were SO KIND and SO EXCITED to just hang out and chat with folks.

Thought I would possibly get my 1000th post up on the blog before the end of the year but the last month or so saw a little bit of a slow down as I transitioned into Christmas retail mode

Should hit 1000 posts early next year

"Jeff Bezos, a celebrity bridegroom and former bookseller, believes that in the coming decades this number [of people in space] will increase by five orders of magnitude to a million or so."
Sombody at @economist.com coming in hot this week.

remember I run an author q&a series on the Big Bearded Bookseller blog, the very first author to be involved was Lisette Auton, a MG author from the NE of England

A bookseller getting close to £1200 on her London Marathon fundraising. Can I get there by midnight?

I'm running for @booktrust.org.uk and it would be a great way to kick off the Year of Reading!

unfortunately no bookseller actually WANTS to sell it (in ebook) but library or used bookstore may be options.

It’s like Valdemar if the Companions were carnivorous apex predators, or Pern if everything else in the world were telepathic & out to get you. Fantasy/scifi meets Western meets horror.

For many, inc myself, 2025 was not an easy year. The bookstore did alright - we celebrated 16 yrs in business for which I'm grateful, but I'm not sad to see this year go. Here's to a 2026 - a fresh start, a reset, and new books on our TBR stack.
