I love themed names for kittens, though I would probably use old film stars or something because then you get social media posts like:
“Our dear Abbott isn’t feeling himself today so we rushed him in to be seen by an expert, little Costello is beside himself with worry”

Thanks to this post I suggested to my family (also mixed-faith though a generation removed) that we do Chinese for Christmas this year too and everyone was very enthusiastic, I’m excited
I come from a mixed-faith family: we have a tree and do presents and put on Christmas music and then we eat Chinese food for dinner.
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

This crust was an experiment, one I’m mostly happy with but it is SO short that it barely holds together enough to get from the fork to your mouth. Needs either less fat or more water, I suppose I will just have to make more pastry-based desserts in future, woe is me 😀

I’ve avoided turning the heat on because I couldn’t remember if I needed to light a pilot or where that was etc and it stressed me out, but it’s gotten genuinely chilly even here in CA so I risked it today and of course it turned right on immediately 🙄🙄🙄

This is the exact cake I demanded for my 4th birthday, from my health food obsessed mom who normally wouldn’t allow it. I ate one slice and was so overwhelmed by the sugar and artificial strawberry flavor that I famously refused to eat a strawberry or anything strawberry flavored until I was 12
Several days ago, she made a strawberry cake box mix. Fine. Tasty, even. She frosted it, thickly, with strawberry shelf icing. Less fine. Very sticky, on the verge of overly sweet.

These dried beans from grocery store are very disappointing, I’ve never had beans cook so unevenly! Some are mushy while others are still firm and break into chunks rather than squish when pressed.
We eat a lot of beans and it seems a waste to keep opening cans or having the good ones shipped here
