Last week, with high tide approaching and the early morning sunshine, it was a beautiful opportunity to photograph overwintering Purple Sandpiper. Lovely birds, and quite a treat to see. Battery Point, Portishead. (07.01.26) #avonbirds #ukwildlife #birds

And there I was at Woodhill Bay, Portishead, taking pictures of this delightful Rock Pipit - when it pulled tongues at me! (07.01.26) #avonbirds #ukwildlife #birds

Spent an hour at The Hole hoping to see the black redstart but no luck. Spoke to a few people and apparently its not been seen there since Saturday :(
A few redshank, curlew, dunlin pottering about in the mud. Wrens, tits, sparrows and starlings flying around the bushes and buildings. #AvonBirds

An afternoon walk around a gloomy Wrington Warren was brightened up by a brief sighting of a flock of around ten Crossbill, which flew over, calling.

A Common Sandpiper, a Peregrine and a Kingfisher were the highlights of an afternoon visit to Clevedon Moor. There was no sign of the Green Sandpiper I saw the other day, despite a good search for it.

Beautiful winter morning at Portbury Wharf today. The pools weren’t as frozen as last week so more birds on the water and hedgerows were very busy with tits, gold crest, collared doves, redwing etc. reedbuntings and stonechat by north #AvonBirds #PWNR

Fabulous to find at least some of the large flock of Avocet I saw at new year still about on River Avon, Bristol. Less than half the number originally seen, so whether some have moved on or are just out of sight I am not sure. Nonetheless, a real treat! (10.01.26) #ukbirding #avonbirds #ukwildlife

The River Avon (Bristol) Avocet were a little more dispersed yesterday. Super to find that three had strayed further from the main flock, and to the north side of the river. (03.01.26) #avonbirds #ukwildlife #birds @btobirds.bsky.social

So dark on this solstice morning. There were a lot of redwing flying about and enjoying all the berries. Nice to see some deer by the pools. We were looking for the reported Siberian chiffchaff but it was impossible to tell for sure if it was or just a regular one. #AvonBirds #PWNR

A nice weekend wander on the coast at Black Nore Point, Portishead. Pleased to see a pair of Rock Pipit bobbing about - and nice of them to stop long enough for me to take a couple of photos! (13.12.25) #avonbirds #ukwildlife

Sunny winter mornings are so beautiful. The pools at Portbury wharf were pretty quiet except for wigeon, teal and a few lapwing. GS woodpecker, buzzard, reed buntings, goldcrests and zillion tits flitting about in the trees #PWNR #AvonBirds

The most beautiful late autumn morning. Cool fresh air and bright sunshine. I saw my first redwing! It was so hard to get a photo as it was high up in an ash tree and swaying in the wind. Always exciting to see a new bird :D #PWNR #AvonBirds

First properly cold day of the season. Good to see the water levels much higher after all the rain at last. Mostly wigeon today, with some lapwing, a little egret, and a heron hiding from the bitterly cold #PWNR #AvonBirds

So many gull chicks at Portbury Wharf this morning. Lots of chiffchaffs but the other warblers were much quieter today. Good to see the little grebes have one surviving chick. Lovely to see a roe deer too :D #AvonBirds

There are ravens nesting in a big tree in the cemetery at the end of our road and I'm determined to get good photos of them. Today they were getting annoyed about jackdaws and shouting a lot so weren't interested in posing. Maybe next time. #AvonBirds
