She clasped Sareena’s arm, and the Nether-Touched helped her up. They stood face to face, and Ashrah saw, written on Sareena’s expression like bright magic words on a scroll, what had so far been hidden from her sight. Strength. Valour. And obscured by the depths of her being, light. Sareena walked in the shadows, but she was no creature of darkness. Ashrah expected the Nether-Touched to marvel at her quest for purification. To encourage her. Praise her zeal. Perhaps even wonder if Datusha could purge her demonic half as well. Instead, all she did was nod to something behind Ashrah and say, “At least Luzvyr is closer now.” Yes. Luzvyr. Ashrah quickly but firmly shook Sareena’s arm before releasing it. “Let us find our freedom.”

I think I'm ready to embrace the fact that this is the best face Ashrah has gotten in video games so far. Yes, I love her BG3 version as well, but here... she looks amazing! If only the game would allow me to make her eyes fully purple, it would be perfect!

“Like all mad dogs, their usefulness quickly runs out.” Ashrah and Sareena whirled around and craned their necks to find Ikalry, the devil famous for her bloody moniker, Mistress of Massacres, grinning in a way that was not unlike her creations now agonising on the spikes. “And they fulfilled their purpose by bringing you to me.” “You shall regret it,” Ashrah retorted, not caring to hide her scorn from the vicious killer who stood twice her size and with three arms on each side of her elongated torso, each carrying a weapon large enough to end Ashrah in one blow. The scant and grimy hides she wore did little to conceal the welts and runes spread throughout her vermilion skin, the bloody marks pulsing in rhythm with the two crimson gemstones she carried, one imbued to the golden collar around her long neck, and the other chiselled into her forehead. A wild mass of red hair—wilder than any elbhyr Ashrah had ever met, despite her species being known for such excesses—reached as far as the devil’s knees. Dark plum horns jutted out from her temples and curved outwards. Trinkets hung from strips of viscera tied to each horn: in one, an eye and a fang; in the other, two fingers severed from what Ashrah assumed had been a Nether-Touched.

Readers will learn about Sareena's backstory, which gives important insights into her character. However, just like Ashrah, there might be one point that's not so obvious and that may need a little closer introspection. (3/3)

Because of the dual samurai/ninja style, my headcanon for Nioh 3 is that Ashrah (samurai) and Sareena (ninja) have Astral Bound, a very advanced spiritual magic technique that allows the Mystic to connect their soul to another creature's, sharing strengths and weaknesses 😊 +

Yielding to the darkness will eclipse the light you gift me. “At first, there would be some conflict of interest, yes. But if you master your darkness, you can make it more susceptible to my purging.” Ashrah nibbled at her lower lip. It had taken her forty thousand Pulses to weave a second skin when most elbhyrs decided on theirs in their first five thousand. None had felt right when she imagined herself dressed in it, not when she had no intention of becoming a hunter of mortals. But since that fateful day when she witnessed the song of freedom and adopted her new form, a form that harmonised the chaos within her, that made her proud to look at her reflection—a pride that filled her soul with joy and not with hunger—she had fought her hardest to keep her demonic flesh wrapped under her spiritual skin. It was not always possible. Feeding on demons did not sustain her as much as she needed. To escape the Abyss, to strengthen herself for important battles and recover herself afterwards, she had sought prey in the fertile souls of the living. She did not regret it; to ensure her liberty, she would doom as many mortals to the Abyss as she must. But she could tread another path now. She could purify herself and extinguish her darkness once and for all—the only way she would ever achieve absolute freedom. The more power darkness tastes, the more it yearns for. Let it wither and perish. And if it resists, I shall strangle it with my blessed hands.

Comment on CH3 of Eternal Flame, on Ao3, by elsenova: Ashrah's first thought to exterminate the Silk Queen is so determined, I like how unbreakable she is. Or, how she shows to the outside that she is unbreakable. I like her. "no point in being subtle" following a meteor shower is indeed the opposite of subtlety. I also like that Ashrah is educated and even in all the chaos and under attack of meteors, under fire, and fighting against demons, she remembers what she had learned in her studies about invisibility and such. Always beware a cold head. So the voice that Ashrah heard in the previous chapter belongs to Datusha. My special appreciation for that! Datusha speaking to Ashrah into her mind is a nice detail, I like such entities and I am intrigued where does this lead Ashrah in the future, and which kind of relationship they might or might not develop, and how morally ambiguous and dangerous Datusha might be. At the moment it is helpful, but it also seem to have some strong opinions...

Ashrah considers herself beautiful, gorgeous, wonderful! She wove her second skin the way she wanted, and she adores her body the way it is, and she *will* act with violence towards prejudiced clowns 👿 She also learnt to love her natural skin!

I feel like I know a lot about Ashrah and understand her pretty well, but I am certain that in seeing her story unfold I will learn even more! Yay!

... (and one reason Ashrah cannot fully connect to her astral powers, since she doesn’t know about this at first) as a way to both make your soul more “welcoming” to spirits and strengthen it against malicious/lost ghosts and yaoguai (which, in CotR, are defined as a perversion of spiritual [9/13]

At least, it was not so for Ashrah. Her neck was stiff and sore where the fangs had penetrated her; had she wished to forget what had happened, this would have made the task impossible. But… did she wish to forget? Necessary as it may have been to prevent the nensii from losing her soul to the Abyss, it had been a form of submission, of willingly placing herself in the hands of her enemy. Yet Ashrah had not felt weak, had not felt like she had lost a battle. On the contrary. Having Nitara drink from her alarun had given her a sense of power. Of ecstasy. She might even say of freedom, and that confounded her more than anything else.

The demon jolted in reaction, but pinned by Nitara’s weight, she had nowhere to run. “And what if I am? You offered yourself, didn’t you? Will you give up so easily?” It had the desired effect. Ashrah stopped twitching and gritted her teeth. “No.”
