In fact the act of societal erasure in itself is a tactic of intelligence and war.  Klein asserted destabilization of Nations governments and societies are a prerequisite for US imperialism, disaster capitalism. Klein outlined throughout the book how US intelligence has evolved to become contingent on methods of psychological warfare in foreign policy. Klein defined the acts of cruel torture and psychological warfare by the US as a clear violation of the Geneva Convention. Breaking of the Spirit as an act of Colonial Warfare I've inserted one example pulled from The Shock Doctrine below which Guantanamo guards break down prisoners by shaving their hair, because this example parallels the violence of assimilation that was enforced at Native residential schools, illustrated through the motto of boarding school enthusiast "Kill the Indian Save the Man". Many can recall the history where Native students in boarding schools were forced to leave their families, cut their hair, take on colonizer names and basically abandon all former ways of "being Indian". The point of the violence was/is to "unmake personalities" and create clean slates through violence, unmaking all previous associations with culture and spirituality, which is also echoed in the description of how prisoners were psychologically tortured at Guantanamo."
