Enjoying unofficial role as monitor of nation’s public transport reading habit for @thenotoriousguy.bsky.social’s #TenMinuteReadingClub Tonight on from Liv St to Ipswich just one real book in 3 carriages. And me reading the new Jonathan Coe on my phone as mislaid Kindle. Everyone else: phones.

Is that an interesting read, Guy? My first #TenMinuteReadingClub reads are Orlando by Virginia Wolf (Folio Society edition, not really enjoying it) and Recursion by Blake Crouch Kindle edition, loving it).

Six members of the #TenMinuteReadingClub on the tube this evening. Among those books on display, The Bee Sting and one of Andrew Taylor’s Fire Court books. A good haul.

#TenMinuteReadingClub My ten minutes came to an abrupt end as page 35 was followed by page 103…then reverts back to page 87 after 50 or so pages. Big chunk missing! Aaaargh!

Used to read on the train to work all the time; since returning after Covid I just scroll on my phone. November resolution is to take a book again (in my defence I now carry a laptop about so it’s v heavy - must seek out v light books; in weight if not subject matter) #TenMinuteReadingClub
The #TenMinuteReadingClub simply asks that you devote only ten minutes a day to reading something, anything. Preferably, this would be in public - the intention is to get weight of numbers to not only make it socially acceptable to read in public, but the norm. Literacy is within our control
16.4% of adults in the UK have very poor literacy skills, being unable to contextualise more complex texts. I’m starting (as a simple JMDF project) the Ten Minute Reading Club

One for @thenotoriousguy.bsky.social and the #TenMinuteReadingClub Quick survey of tube carriage today: rice reading books that included Le Carré and Yellowface. Two of us reading Kindles. 19 doing who knows what with phones.

Trying to commit to the #TenMinuteReadingClub is hard when I read so much for work, but I’m setting down for some time with my current book: Strange Weather In Tokyo.

Photo from a rainy day in Ueno park Tokyo during our visit there.

#TenMinuteReadingClub One Day, by David Nicholls. 10/10, a wonderful, uplifting, moving, upsetting, familiar, story of two friends told on the same day over 20 years.
