IMO, we 🌍'lly, 🇨🇦 at least, need to seriously start busting up, clawing back & eliminating Million-Billion-Tillionaires personal & corporate. I'm all about democracy & capitalism. But it's out of balance. Like TRoosevelt who broke up monopolies, we need the same. #cdnpoli #eupoli #uspoli #ukpoli
My timeline is full of people behaving very badly—from royals to billionaires.

Bernie nailed it.

Leadership faces its constituents—unarmed, unafraid, in the open, as equals.

TRoosevelt was problematic, but his masculinity was the kind Trump folks fetishized but do not manifest: non-fear in the face of collective social obligation.

Trump and the modern Republican Party hate America.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Great point. #ParkChat. We went to TRoosevelt NP in January once. We were the only one at Roughrider Hotel for three nights.

And the party that abandoned the values of Lincoln-Grant-TRoosevelt-Ike is enabling his law-breaking.

I think a lot about how modern MANLY MEN got no idea how to actually man and are kind of just into childlike posturing & pretend.

Whereas the MANLY MEN of old, like TRoosevelt, were v v serious about actually doing and understanding things and making things happen in the real world w/o whining.

TRoosevelt may have said “the president is merely the most important among a large number of public servants,” but I’d argue he’s simply the most visible. The real work of day-to-day governing happens in office buildings by thousands of government employees.

Toughest president since TRoosevelt couldn’t handle it I guess.

But not JFK, Carter, nor Obama, nor Harding nor TRoosevelt,
had the inaugural dangers in the wind that Trump would endure, despite $1M donations by Zuckerberg and Besos toward the best hair spray:

Interesting US Navy names its biggest Nimitz class carriers, after Washington, Lincoln, TRoosevelt, Truman & Eisenhower: then Reagan, Ford, Bush & southern racists Vinson & Stennis. LBJ gets a destroyer & Carter, Naval Academy grad, submarine qualified, non-racist southerner, gets a sub and a snub.

In his TRoosevelt trilogy, Edmund Morris made extremely rare use of footnotes to expand on a point; otherwise all the citational stuff, plus whatever juicy stories Edmund didn't think were part of the book proper but were too good to waste, went in the back.

From what I can tell 2024 is only the second (spoken, not written) State of the Union to mention Finland.

- 1934 FDR
- 2024 Biden

(There were three written SOTUs too that mentioned Finland: TRoosevelt 1903, Coolidge 1924 and 1925)
