Almost every sysad I've ever met has been centrist at best, or an evangelical / conspiracy loon at worst. I don't think any male-dominated field will ever be "more than likely left voting".

I had a baby SysAd a few years back with a real "church mouse" demeanor... her first day assigned under me it was clear that underway she was going to be my counterpart on the other shift. I told her "Since I wont be able to back you up, I need to teach you to be a bitch. You have to scare them...

I remember when I was on Help Desk and I wrote us up a password generator, and I passed it to the SysAd team, who told me he didn't wanna use mine, because he made his own that was a single, unreadable line of code. And it's just like "Cool hope NO ONE ever has to read through that"

Half the campus has WiFi but no cable connection.
The other half has cable but spotty WiFi.
Everyone is calling, pissed off and with a penchant for long rants bordering on veiled threats.
Because keeping me busy on the phone is making me act sooner than later.

I was a SysAd working for 2K for a time. Still in IT, just not for gamedev anymore. Unless you count tabletop games, then I'm still there.

Since retiring from being a sysad, I have the pleasure of only using Kubuntu. I recently had to install Windows 11 on several computers where Windows died. What a POS! In it’s own way, it’s crappier than Windows 8, almost to Microsoft Bob level.

Best advice I've heard about studying is to start/do your studying with the intention of not finishing. a chapter of my SysAd trainings are multiple hours at a time and rather than telling myself you're sitting here until chapter X is done instead it's more start here and see where you end up.
