Chronic illness is expensive—at LEAST $6k/yr (rheumnow.com/news/autoimm...), but prob more like 2x. + @lupus.org found 55% of ppl w lupus can no longer work full time.

For comparison: how do you calculate the social cost of wearing a mask in dollars? Is it 5 figures?

Do you have gettin sick money?

Late-onset SpA with PMR clinical presentations is characterised by failure to respond to or taper GC therapy and is often identified by SpA-specific osteitis patterns on MRI. We propose that a PMR-SpA...

Recently I attended the National Axial Spondylarthritis Society’s Changemaker awards in Parliament, where two of my constituents were being celebrated. Thank you to Dr James Prior and Professor Yeliz Prior for inviting me along, and for all the excellent work that you have done.

"Klassische" NSAR-UAW: kardiovaskuläres Risiko↑. Aber: bei bestimmten rheumatischen Erkrankungen (insb. Lupus, ANCA-Vaskulitis, Spondylarthritis) ist kardiov. Risiko ohnehin erhöht. Atherosklerose auch entz. Prozess → NSAR können hier Schutzfaktor sein (PMID: 35762631)

I have ankylosing spondylitis or spondylarthritis. Mine fused my neck and took 10 years to diagnose because at the time it was thought to attack the lower spine/tailbone area and be more prominent in men. I got chronic kidney disease from the nsaids to treat the pain. The fatigue is a lot sometimes.

a lot of people go on to develop autoimmune diseases after a covid infection (or two or three).

when i urge you to wear a mask i’m doing so from a place of enthusiastic discouragement— if 18 years of autoimmunity has taught me anything it’s that you do not want this.

I recently started playing with a new online group. As per usual with me, I feel self conscious. The first session I got cramps and spent a fair portion standing and in pain so the folks on the other end could just see my midriff until it stopped hurting (due to my spondylarthritis I cramp often).

Who am I to question the viewing habits of my customers? I for one welcome some extra cash to pay for my medicine and the pot gummies I use in order to actually ignore my spondylarthritis long enough to sleep. #butIamsotired #happyholidays #etsyshop #art #artbusiness

ironically, you’re far more likely to become ~like me~ by not wearing a mask: SARS2 infection is a potent autoimmune trigger.

look: you can take off the mask as desired, but you cannot take off lupus. some somatic damage is irreversible. you lose beloved abilities.

the mask is better. believe me.

No accident. I had a lot of spondylarthritis (leading to very severe osteoarthritis in my hip) as a result of undiagnosed Crohn’s Disease in my 20s. Once the Crohn’s was eventually diagnosed and treated with biologic therapy drugs, all problems went away, but 4 years too late for my hip
