Soukous must be it! Thank you! Apart from Peel, there used to be a club called Gold Coast upstairs at the Brixton Academy around 1984/85 which played some absolutely incredible stuff from all over the continent. Anyone else remember it?

My introduction to Remmy Ongala came when Peter Gabriel, invited him to record this album for his label Real World Records, as well as to play on the 1988 WOMAD tour. Also my introduction to Soukous music from Tanzanian. Look up his music. Then listen to Paul Simon's Graceland. I ❤️ World Music.
