Here’s @deepseauwa.bsky.social’s footage, which includes many of the endemic Antarctic squid, such as Slosarczykovia circumantarctica, Alluroteuthis antarctica, and Moroteuthopsis longimana:

sigh i’m too lazy to fix it but it’s Alluroteuthis antarticus, not Alluroteuthis antarctica. Leave it to me to get the hard one right (slosarczykovia lol) and mess up the easy ones

Species update: This is a Slosarczykovia circumantarctica, a member of the family Brachioteuthidae. Special thanks to Austin Horenkamp.

Researchers used ROV SuBastian in the Southern Ocean to film elusive species—Moratoothopsis longimana, Slosarczykovia circumantarctica, and Alluroteuthis antarcticus—between 1,000–1,500 m depth. These sightings offer rare glimpses into frigid, twilight marine life.

The bright-yellow ring you see around the eye in this first photo is the photophore on what is likely a Slosarczykovia circumantarctica in the family brachioteuthidae.

This whole family is know for their long ventral ocular photophores.
