Bless you for framing it this way. SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, TANF, Sec8... all that shit intended for lifting the American standard of living from the bottom exists to subsidize the cost of labor for capitalism. These are the blanket subsidies granted to all corporations in America.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

I know that area does not always have the, ah, kindest hearted people in some landlord capacities. My late son's best friend lived in an apartment in the area (don't know if it was sec8, he had no $ tho) and it was pretty brutal. Ended up living w us for a while.
