SOUL HACKERS 2 // ATLUS // 2022
as a massive fan of the original Soul Hackers I was extremely sceptical of the vibe this had pre-release but I found it for cheap during a massive depressive episode and apparently atlus games are where I go during those, and I ended up liking it quite a bit! yes the level design is extremely samey and visually bland, I'll grant you. it's where the visibly tiny budget this had really shows up. but aside from that, it's a legit fun dungeon crawler, with loads of good ideas and fantastic music. i was surprised by how much I ended up loving the cast: if you told me at the start of the game that i'd feel so strongly about a guy with sharp teeth and a fedora i'd laugh, but saizo ended up being a delightful wifeguy that I loved to be around. it's got better combat and better characters than what I played of metaphor, that's for sure! turns out atlus actually made a persona game with adults instead of teenagers, and it's here! Everyone has a lot of baggage and failed relationships, but handling it with a sense of defeatism felt very true to me. idk, it's far from perfect but I ended up liking it! a lot more than what I saw of metaphor honestly.

Lastly, there was a 9-page story by Yaegashi Saizō called "Let's Go! Digimon Mini Theater" about V-mon, Hawkmon, Armadimon, Tailmon, and Patamon going to eat a cake for Christmas, but Gokimon steals it, and they need to recover it in a very comedic story (8/9).
