This walk in #Lancashire from Wiswell (pronounced “Wizzle”) takes you over the 1462 ft high Spence Moor and down into Sabden. Overall, it is an easy walk with a bit of a steep, though short climb back up to Wiswell Moor near the end. Details at www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lanc...

The Treacle Mines at Sabden?

I don’t remember the series. Which is odd as I was force fed the Sabden treacle mine folklore for as long as I remember

Yes there are. Another couple in Sabden too, which is where the maternal side of my family are originally from until they moved in the 60s

One of 11 children of a Sussex yeoman farmer, he was a commercial traveller who became co-owner of a calico printing factory in Sabden, Lancashire. He settled in Manchester only in 1832, but fitted into the town’s line of middle-class liberals. 2/6

Saturday – GOLDSHAW BOOTH

Today we hit Goldshaw Booth, which covers Newchurch in Pendle, Spen Brook and Sabden Fold. Newchurch’s churchyard is heavily linked to the Pendle Witches. Alice Nutter, who we learned about last week is supposedly buried there.

Several tight connections later and I'm now approaching the village of Sabden, sited on the west side of Pendle Hill

Chose this approach as while it's a lot longer it's far, far easier in terms of steepness

Journey going well so far :) just leaving Blackburn bus station, meaning I am over halfway to the village of Sabden

I used a very similar trundle wheel when working for Lancashire County Council in 1994 surveying roads around Padiham and Sabden.

Legend tells, however, of the mighty War Moobarks, twice the size of the Sabden breed, once employed as steeds by the tribe of King Habbukuk many generations ago. But this is, of course, nonsense. Surely.

The Moobark is a proud and noble beast. A natural cross between an Airedale Terrier and a Friesian Cow, this fine animal can be found roaming the fields of the treacle-mining village of Sabden and its surrounding environs.
