how qutip hae to do with thanker, thanker stillnot a word

Arguably, that's even more explicit, too. My intent with importing QuTiP as an optional dependency of QInfer is quite clear there, rather than getting mixed up with the logic for tracking potentially missing imports and, in the process, swallowing the import error.

The number of times I had […]

I just have that idiom memorized, but gah, how much simpler would it be to instead just do:

```
lazy from qutip import Qobj
def from_superoperator(...):
superoperator = Qobj(...)
...
```
November 3, 2025 at 9:00 PM
```
try:
import qutip as qt
except:
qt = None
def require_qutip():
if qt is None:
raise ImportError()
return qt
def from_superoperator(...):
qt = require_qutip()
superoperator = qt.Qobj(...)
...
```

A startling number of lines in QInfer, QuTiP, and conda were, in retrospect, workaround for not having lazy imports.

E.g.: late importing to break circular dependencies, to reduce startup time, or to mitigate the impact of missing optional dependencies […]

Yeah, any kinda gentle acetone scrub with a qutip to get the glue off should work

But with it still on 🤔
That's kinda a cool time capsule like...
