The 'Engishiki' (延喜式), begun in 905, mentions a dish called 'mochigayu' (餅粥/望粥), eaten on January 15th (lunar calendar).
Similar to 'nanakusagayu', it included 7 ingredients: rice, foxtail millet, azuki beans, sesame, Japanese millet, American sloughgrass and red millet.
