Dude left the fed because he didn’t get to main event Mania 33 (and he was justified for that.) He did the NJPW stuff and signed with AEW to boost his stock. He was always gonna go back, and he was always gonna say whatever his boy Paul wanted him to say.

He always kept one foot in the door.

It's the only "major" promotion he hasn't worked for. If I'm remembering correctly only Christopher Daniels had worked for WCW, WWE, NJPW, RoH, AEW, and TNA. Jericho has done all but TNA but did work ECW so that would be a record of sorts if he does go to TNA.

Last time they tried to exclude ROH/NJPW, Sinclair sued WWE and won. Same would happen if AEW really wanted to run it. Bigger issue is costs and using NY organized labor.

Don't know what Canadian laws are regarding that sort of thing.

There's variables among NJPW fans just to what the timeline of what happened here, but most of them have come to the same general conclusion of what happened. It's actually a little disconcerting how aggressively not-understanding the AEW fan response has been to this conclusion.

This is getting blown way out of proportion and we're jumping to conclusions far too soon. We don't really know what went on WWE's side not AEW/NJPW side. So I'm not reading any further into this.

I was totally out of pro wrestling. Had been a diehard lifelong fan and WWE finally killed my love of it in the mid-2010s. AEW brought me back and I fell in love with it, and I also periodically watch NJPW and CMLL. I get it--AEW saved pro wrestling for me in a very real way, too.

AEW, ROH, NJPW, DDT, TJPW, STARDOM, CMLL, REV PRO with the main event being an Interpromotional Championship Match or something like that
November 11, 2025 at 5:34 PM
Same, I came back to wrestling after a ten year hiatus in 2014 with the WWE network launch. That got me on squared circle, where I was introduced to Kenny Omega and the Bucks, from there I watched mainly NJPW and some RoH, followed those guys all the way through founding AEW.

AEW is the most significant global bulwark against WWE's quest to dominate and enshittify wrestling. Hard to think what the state of global wrestling would be right now if not for AEW's domestic wrestling product, its international partnerships with NJPW and CMLL, and Tony Khan buying ROH.
Tony Khan saved pro wrestling in the U.S. with AEW. Through AEW partnerships, he helped NJPW survive the pandemic & CMLL fight back against WWE buying AAA. Not to mention letting talent work indy shows globally. The vitriol some fans have for him is insane. Touch grass, get a life, etc.

I watched some NJPW in 2017/18 but that was it. AEW starting reignited my dead fandom.

People have selective memory of how rough WWE was in that time period and it was difficult to find other promotions on tv. I mean, it was fortunate that Impact, NJPW, and ROH had any US tv shows and hell, it started to move me away from the fed.

But, AEW? That really did change the world.
November 11, 2025 at 4:49 PM
Same here. I will say, thanks to AEW, I know NJPW, and CMLL exist.
November 11, 2025 at 4:48 PM
Listen, the Nakamura match was never happening. You’re right, AEW fans. It was the imagination of every NJPW fan. It was also going to be a bad match no one would ever want to see. We’ve definitely been seeing Tanahashi’s output this year and know that’s why people are watching his retirement run.
November 11, 2025 at 4:47 PM
"Shinsuke Nakamura was internally discussed as Hiroshi Tanahashi’s final opponent, but NJPW views it as a pipe dream due to WWE contract." That was reported 6 weeks ago. So tired of people attacking AEW for WWE being a shit company.

Why are we doing this? WWE would or did say no because NJPW is an AEW partner, not Tony Khan. I am begging wrestling fans to be normal & use plain logic for one day. Just one!

I like how Shinsuke Nakamurs's entire purpose now is "red meat for Japanese wrestler whenever they're in the headlines but only to find a way to make AEW look like a bad guy because he will never actually work with NJPW again"
