#NACC's
The hearing into the NACC Inspector’s annual report and the NACC’s annual report are on this morning and I’ll be asking questions about conflicts of interest, Robodebt, the huge delays on inquiries and more.

“Mr Brereton… told Australia that he had not in fact been involved in any of the NACC’s Robodebt decision making process, and then was found to have sat in on…almost all the Robodebt senior decision meetings… the Commissioner who was also a very close friend of one of the key Robodebt accused…”

The NACC’s warning to departments showed 1 in 6 government workers surveyed (15%) admitted to witnessing but failing to report, and at least 554 public servants said they had witnessed but failed to report corruption, including nepotism, fraud, cronyism and conflicts of interest. #auspol

22 occasions in response to 18 requests. All on the NACC's budget?

I note you ask how many, not whether there are any. A fair question, given the NACC’s track record for non-transparency.

I cannot help it - every time I see the acronym IGADF, my brain autocorrects it to IDGAF

One could, TBF, attribute that emotion to P Brereton, if you consider his actions heading up the NACC

The litmus test for the NACC’s effectiveness above anything anyone says in its defense is the NACC’s failure to investigate the Robodebt Six presented to it on a plate by the RC Catherine Holmes. The NACC Head Brereton refused to investigate the six and used foul methods to ensure it never happened.

"the #NACC Inspector is not in a position to provide any assurance as to the quality and robustness of the NACC’s work and whether the NACC is deliberately deploying flawed methodologies with the express purpose of concealing corrupt conduct of high-ranking Commonwealth officials." #auspol

Nick Feik: “And adding to questions around performance and credibility, it was recently revealed that the NACC’s Chief Commissioner, Paul Brereton, has been consulting for the Defence Force while leading the federal watchdog – which has oversight of the ADF.”

Perhaps worse than the lack of action has been the NACC’s missteps. The public needs to see results or resignations.

New piece, unpaywalled-
Does the NACC have any hope of regaining public trust?
The NACC has over two hundred employees and an annual budget of over $60m, but has yet to land a single major finding from over 5,000 referrals.

FOI documents released by the NACC show not all of the #NACC submissions to the Inspector (re: her inquiry into the NACC's handling of the #Robodebt6 referral) were made fully available to the public.

NACC's a complete dud. Doesn't give community confidence, appears a bureaucratic jolly, sinecures for 'mates'. Brereton blew its gravitas to smithereens, & Labor / LNP deal to insert 'exceptional circumstance' test a corrupt master-stroke for secrecy www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/2025/07/12/s...

Ya think? 🤦
He just doesn't get it. Wrong person for the job.
The ground work was done by the Royal Commission. NACC's job was to review the work, identify missing information, use their resources and mighty powers to investigate further if necessary, refer to the courts with absolute evidence. 🤷

The NACC's backflip on robodebt leaves a lot of questions unanswered. A legal experts tells Anton Nilsson the commission needs to regain the public's trust.
How can we be sure the NACC will investigate robodebt properly?
The NACC has been characteristically secretive about its reasons for backflipping on robodebt.
