I'm sure that was part of it, but the MEZ was very much directed at the Argentine navy and naval auxiliaries.

It was also an attempt for the British to give the Argentinians to back down. During the time the MEZ was active they attempted negotiations including a 100 year lease but the Argentinians turned them down.

Sure, but the UK declared the MEZ. Clearly someone decided at some point that incorporating an element of restraint into the UK's strategy was a good idea.

I never suggested there was. I'm just trying to reconcile the decision to declare the MEZ with the decision to sink a gun cruiser outside of the MEZ. My (limited) critique is more on the level of strategy than anything else.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I realize I'm nitpicking here, but I do think it's fair to question why the RN felt the need to sink a gun cruiser outside the MEZ. Either the MEZ was too small, or the sinking was premature from a strategic perspective. These are minor criticisms in the grand scheme.
