What a beautiful night last night here in Inverness. I've visited so many pubs and listened to so much live music. This morning, I'll be popping into the famous Leakeys Bookshop before driving the 190 miles home. It was a spur of the moment decision to pop up here, and I loved every bit of it.

I remember wishing Dowd wasn't so optimistic & 1.0C+ & 350ppm. My soil scientist Mother had "Limits" & the Leakeys on our shelves. I've raged since a certain 1995 bioethics class. lol

As a kid this was my dream car. I loved watching the specials about the Leakeys working on archeology digs in Africa. I wanted to be an archeologist when I grew up and drive one of these!
Saw this series 1 Land Rover today. Apparently, the original price of a 1948 Land Rover Series 1 was £450 (roughly £18,000 in today's money). Now, an unrestored example is around £12,575 and fully restored can be more than £50,000.

Today would have been my mom’s 79th birthday, so fun fact: She minored in Anthropology in college. She was obsessed with the Leakeys. I could say “Australopithecus” when I was 4. There were anthropology books all over the floor for years. She would passionately defend science.

this is romantic rubbish

people living at that level are a tremendously small portion of us all

what's more, indigenous folk destroyed megafauna and water sheds where ever they went

Kimmerer and the Leakeys don't write romantic shit lies about the indigenous

why do we???

Back when there was only 3-5 TV channels, there was only ONE place you could see Sagan, Cousteau or the Leakeys.

PBS.

This is a PsyOp. An act of War. I KNOW. PsyOp guys sat in the back of my APC. I guarded and drove them around. They trained me. I got their bloody dry cleaning.

This is F War.
As a reminder, PBS NOVA is one of the coolest science entertainment platforms that we have today!

I don't agree that most theories can't be proven. Over time we have been able to prove quite a few theories. Like whether neutrinos exist or evolution. Both were posited long before it was borne out by researchers in the field like the Leakeys.
And that Earth is more than six thousand years old.

That is right. I've never heard of any intelligent person brag about themselves. Einstein, Sagan, DeGrasse-Tyson, Obama, Goodall, Tesla, Hawking, The Leakeys.....

You can't beat a visit to Leakeys.

I mean thankfully we even had people like the Leakeys in there last century finding our ancestors there! The research is being funded, it just takes a long time, but honestly as far as human evolution and prehistory goes, science didn’t really care until after Darwin and it took a while still.

Gilbert Sheldon had his finger on the pulse of a time. All mine came from the Adelaide version of the pictured Sydney Third World Bookshop. 24 hours too. Inside was exactly like Leakeys in Inverness

Seems I'm being stalked by books about sea serpents this week. Seen in Leakeys bookshop and Glenurquhart library.

Hi Ian, next time you're in Inverness, Leakeys second hand book shop at the bottom of Church Street is worth a visit.

It's where I first discovered Rebus 😃

Bit sad going to Inverness and going to Waterstones rather than Leakeys
January 13, 2025 at 10:45 AM
I do too! It's an incredible country. I cannot WAIT to return.
Did you go to Leakeys while you were in Inverness?! Or eat at Black Isle or Hootenany?!?! I dream about the food and drinks at Hootenany and Black Isle regularly 😂🤤

If you guys are ever up north you've got to check out leakeys in Inverness!! Huge second hand book shop that's been running since the 70s, kind of a mixed bag with regards to books you find but immaculate bookshop vibes

Yes, lovely but everything (not Leakeys I'm pleased to say) is closed on Monday!! Slightly odd, old time practice ...but the people were delightful.
