I haven't, but La Mulana spawned my friends referring to certain games as "sicko games" (games for people who are into deeply obtuse bullshit (Certain games like Blue Prince, Baba is You, Layer 3/4 Animal Well got this designation)). I still don't know anything about La Mulana though.

(Zero chance of them looking at La Mulana but that is definitely a game that gives you a very large explorable space from early on, and requires finding and solving things to expand that space. Hollow Knight and Dark Souls 1 come to mind as more likely things they could look at.)

If I remake this one day, I will include more games like Tower of Heaven, the original La-Mulana, Eversion, and Banana Nababa.

one thing i am interested in is making degraded or undecipherable text by stacking characters (eg the tablets in La Mulana).
are there actual terminals which can do transparent text and stack this way, or is that alien to how they work?

3rd completed game of 2026 is La-Mulana (2005). An indie puzzle-platformer that presages games like Dark Souls and Animal Well, it somehow squanders all of its early goodwill with a cruel, inscrutable back half that's more unpleasant than a root canal. I think I hate this game.
