The actively operating Kreigsmarine flagship in a time of war?

NON-NSFW ‼️

History nerd update! This Christmas I received four more of the Britains WWII commanders figurines I wanted! Check the ALT for a left-to-right naming of each person (especially the last two pics) :)

Pew, pew. Just a reminder that the Bismarck, the most advanced, dangerous battleship in the Nazi Kreigsmarine, which cost millions to build and required expenditure of enormous industrial capacity, was taken out by one of these, a biplane that cost next to nothing and was mainly made out of canvas.

Gunther Stark was a submarine commander for the Kreigsmarine in WW2. That's why they dropped the surname "Stark", after that fact arose and caused some backlash. I'd say that they should've stayed with WALTER, but WWE gonna WWE, and create their own name to merchandise and exploit.

There is an actual difference between the two

The Balkenkreuz was used for the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht.

The Swastika was used on flags (such as the Kreigsmarine) and other propaganda materials, you can see it on flags in pictures (though it could be seen on the vertical stabilizer of some planes)

Extra points for painting the whole place in battleship grey, just in case there are any lurking U-Boats down the road. Take that Kreigsmarine.

Günther Heydemann, commander of U-575, surfaced after the attack and observed several occupied lifeboats and rafts, but the weather was poor, with heavy seas. Heydemann reported this, plus a shortage of fuel, as the reasons for not questioning the survivors.

Looks like when he was in the Kreigsmarine in his pre SS days.

A photographic spread of U-35 featured in the American Life magazine on 16th October, with the accompanying text specifically mentioning the Diamantis incident. Here, it seemed, was an example of a U-Boat captain scrupulously obeying prize rules.

27th September 1942. The American Liberty Ship SS Stephen Hopkins, bound for Surinam to load ore, came across the Kreigsmarine ‘Hilfskreuzer’ (merchant raider) Stier and her supply ship MS Tannenfells. In thick fog, the vessels were only 2 miles apart when they sighted each other.

I learned about Wessel in high school in the UK.

Here’s what we can expect:

An SS military division was named after him;
A kreigsmarine training ship was named for him (now in possession of the U.S. coast guard);
A school, a town square, a neighborhood, a song, a subway station, and on and on.

The success of Schuhart and his men was widely promoted on their return to base, since Courageous was not only a valuable target, but also the first British warship to be sunk by the Kreigsmarine.

I mean, first hand experience is manning a Bofors gun in 1940 surely?

I mean, Mike looks old and he's clearly right wing enough to have got into the Kreigsmarine but he's not that old!

Nice silhouette there of a WWII Kreigsmarine U Boat, nothing like a modern submarine.

Ah I see the Kreigsmarine is starting their Battle of the Atlantic.

Imagine being the Kreigsmarine captain learning your U-Boat had been sunk by HMS Snowflake

Sure. But I won’t say they had a much better choice. Norway wasn’t asked too if they want to be a military base, especially for Kreigsmarine.

Let he who is without longing for the glory days of the Kreigsmarine cast the first cooked jobs report.
is this also the guy who has the picture of Hitler's ship up in his office?

The Kreigsmarine was the German military branch that got the most consistently spanked-it was so hammered during the Battle of Norway that it made the UK immune to naval invasion.
I know, that’s what’s weirdest about this. Even within Nazis, who the hell stans the Kreigsmarine?

That's Bismarck. Tirpitz never wore that paint job at all during her service with the Kreigsmarine.

Kreigsmarine destroyers Paul Jakobi (21), Z7 Hermann Schoemann (23) & possibly Z6 Theodor Riedel. Background looks like it may be Ceuta, which the 2nd Destroyer Division visited in 1938. #navalhistory
