This bill censors classrooms by pressuring teachers to self-censor and silencing students who want to discuss Palestine, Israel, and other pressing issues of justice and human rights violations. The bill conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism, erases Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, and other voices, and invites politically motivated complaints that will chill free speech. Our schools should be safe to teach and learn. Governor Newsom has come out against Trump’s attacks on free speech and public education – he must do the same and veto AB 715.
