#IFPA
Yeah. I also wish that the folks that have been coming out and telling off Aaron would do *anything* about the current IFPA situation. Those are the people that the IFPA bends their ear to, and their silence is allowing for the IFPA's behavior to continue.

Hey you wanna hear what the IFPA told me after I stepped down after 2 years as women's state rep?

They said:

I wish there were alternatives to the IFPA currently, or that there was any way for me to continue to represent in good conscience. To me it's either give Josh money and endorse his behavior, or remove myself wholesale.

It also means I don't have to mentally deal with pinball, which is huge.

The IFPA is so inclusion! Inclusive in the same way handing your younger sibling an unplugged NES controller & telling them it's co-op is inclusive - but that counts for something right?

No wonder the WAB resigned.

I’ve TD’d and hosted women’s events. I really hope a better alternative rises.
IFPA: Trans women are women

Trans women: Thank you

IFPA: So we can sideline you and ignore your concerns, just like we do for cis women! Look how inclusive we are

Trans women: Hey that's actually not cool

IFPA: I'm sorry, was a woman talking? Couldn't hear her over all the pinball

I think this is where I'm landing at too. I really thought about suppression- but it's just a punishment. Avoiding the IFPA entirely would wreck the fun I have in the hobby. Supporting alternatives is the best thing I can do - well that & complain loudly.

It's official - Stern's next game will be Pokemon. Glad to see a pinball theme not aimed at the AARP demographic! I think there's some cool stuff they could do with insider connect on this one. Now if the IFPA will just stop pissing off the younger demographic. 🙄

I am never going to "suppress" my results from the IFPA. Suppression is a punishment given by the IFPA. I will not punish myself for what happened.

My answer to any cis person who tells me to make a statement by suppressing myself is, _you_ suppress yourself if it's such a good statement.

Here's my pinball position right now.

I'm going to do what I can to support good alternatives to the IFPA, especially for our local tournaments.

I am not going to avoid tournaments just because they are IFPA. They _want_ the noisy angry people to stop participating and be a self-solving problem.

Normalize calling out Josh Sharpe, since earlier IFPA statements made it crystal clear that he is the only one making decisions for the IFPA. Stop letting him hide behind the corporate veil.

I'm giving it a little time before I nudge our TD, since we're in a casual season right now, about what they'll do about IFPA sanction. But I would be surprised if leaving IFPA isn't on the table.

These aren't small pockets. These are MAJOR pinball hubs.

Pinball lives in Chicago. It was born and raised there. And the Chicago Belles do not feel comfortable with IFPA sanctioning anymore.

Please let the gravity of that sink in!

Something has to give.
February 6, 2026 at 7:43 AM
Chicago Belles, SF/Oakland Belles and seemingly the entire Pacific Northwest have removed IFPA sanctioning from their tournaments.

More and more places do not feel comfortable sanctioning.

How is this not setting off alarm bells at the IFPA? How is their response to continue to punish players??
February 6, 2026 at 7:43 AM
There have been a lot of people posting heartfelt sadness about the IFPA decision made yesterday. And there's a handful of people that are mad and a little out of line.

And since some people are mad it seems the IFPA has just decided to exit the conversation rather than listen or engage.

We'll see what happens at TPF when a "concerned citizen" reports to the police or venue security that someone is using the ""wrong"" bathroom. Is the IFPA going to stand-by their policy in the face of a trans hostile state or will they fallback to maintaining the "purity" of their data?

“Players who wish to participate in IFPA sanctioned events expect fair tournaments with accurate reporting.”

Fair to whom, IFPA??? Fair to whom??

this IFPA leadership issue aside, i genuinely think it really is.
February 5, 2026 at 7:37 PM
When this first happened I criticized the IFPA but ultimately decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I said if another breach of the inclusionary policy happened & again there were no consequences, I'm out. That still stands. Today's update is disappointing to say the least.
February 5, 2026 at 7:20 PM
The IFPA is digging a deeper hole. This was never a policy failure; it was an enforcement failure.

Bureaucracy doesn't fix a lack of backbone. Until they follow through on enforcement, they have no credibility. They've painted themselves into a corner with no one to blame but themselves.
February 5, 2026 at 7:13 PM
Translation: "We offered a protest mechanism thinking no one would actually use it. Now that it’s impacting our precious spreadsheet, we’re removing it."

They had every chance to de-sanction OBX & didn't. This is doubling down on them valuing statistics more than people.
February 5, 2026 at 7:13 PM
Thank you for covering this story! I'm a high-ranked competitive pinball player who has been to that tournament and knows the TD and players well. Seeing this blow up is both surreal and so depressing with how poorly the IFPA has handled it. All they had to do was enforce their own stated policy.
February 5, 2026 at 6:42 PM
Unfortunately, the IFPA announced yesterday that players voluntarily opting out will no longer be allowed! The IFPA just cannot stop demonstrating how hostile it is to its own stated policies of inclusion and diversity. They're basically telling anyone upset about this to fuck off and disappear.
