on my shit, trying out yet another cute distro, so far having some of the most relaxed installation. had some slight issues where programs i ran didn't appear on screen at first- had to restart OBS after first run and had to drag hero launcher, but so far so good~ #xp #linux

RAM successfully recognized by Arch Linux. zram was successfully automatically adjusted accordingly
screenshot from Konsole showing the program Hyfetch, which neatly states my computer specs. the command `free -h` verified 30Gi of memory was recognized by the system and that swap (zram) was functionally adjusted. `swapon --show` doubly verified that zram is now 7.5G large, which is a good thing that should automatically be adjusted with the increase of RAM.

I don't know why the pride-flag colors in hyfetch don't work in Apple's terminal. I'd like to solve that at some point.

I'm hoping that, too, doesn't rely on having a newer macOS than Monterey.

Oh yeah - I ought to infodump about how I name my computers. Since something like...2008? I've been naming every computer in my inventory after *some* object or figure from Norse mythology. It's full of such cool names and interesting stories.

The computer I'm typing this on is "Brokkr."

Yeah I've been trying to as well and while it's not perfect I really enjoy the customization and control it has. It's also improved a lot over recent years!

The Cosmic desktop! While still in alpha it is very usable and close to a beta release. I have 3 tiles windows shown, from left to right: A YouTube tech video showing a terminal with text art of a rat. A customization interface showing settings. And a terminal window with a Pokemon called Brionne, and Hyfetch, a addon to Fastfetch and other system information programs to add pride colours! There's a terminal window showing art of a Pokemon called Cyndaquil and Hyfetch. There's also the system settings menu open. And a wallpaper that is very abstract layering rainbow colours over the taskbar!

Desktop Environment:

Unlike Windows, you can completely customize your desktop env. Could make it look like Windows or Mac, or something else.

If you want something similar to Windows and with good UX, use KDE. It's quite nice, albeit buggy sometimes, and super customizable. Mine as an example:

Learned of the existence of hyfetch, a pride flag fork of neofetch, and there's six pages of pride flags including a pride flag for "Burger" with exactly the colours you'd expect, and really those should be the American pride colours instead of the Red-White-and-Blue they have now.
