#GreenBelts
It will be fine. It's old enough to be on its own. They will find each other again. The greenbelts aren't big like they used to be.

So all those plans to build on greenbelts weren’t about affordable homes then. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Im not a big greenbelts guy, but I do think a “greenbelts for the Midwest” thing would prove helpful.
October 3, 2025 at 5:14 PM
That's not a greenbelt; the British and Canadian greenbelts were instituted in explicit opposition to a finger plan.

I'll add Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa have greenbelts in place to help protect farmland / natural heritage / hydrologic features, whereas London does not. I can see the need to reshape London's boundaries given new pressures, but it should be done thoughtfully to protect the agricultural value.

yeah im definitely pro-whatever this is, particularly if we start actually enforcing greenbelts and building way more affordable housing.
reduce the super rural population and also reduce how much we keep building exurbs for supercommuters

Totally agree, there are plenty of empty and decaying properties in cities that are not being utilised. I’m sure it won’t help affordability either, probably a smattering of part ownership and the rest no more affordable. Concerning for greenbelts also. Labour seem disinterested in the environment.

With a new government willing to rethink #GreenBelts we are at an opportune time for #change

We argue they should be “strategic urban support landscapes” to help city regions adapt to a changing climate, reframing their spatial proximity which once made them a planning challenge, as an asset🧵(9/10)

ICE ran a protestor over in a vehicle today and deployed so many chemical munitions they set greenbelts on fire
The administration gets closer to using the military to crush civilian dissent. Expect deaths, disappearances, and lawless detentions.
Tom Homan: We are making Los Angeles safer. Mayor Bass should be thanking us. She says they are going to mobilize—guess what? We are already mobilizing. We are going to bring the National Guard in tonight

Denser urban development, both high- and low-rise, with very narrow gaps between single-family buildings. Also, no British-style greenbelts.

Maybe go out in nature for a bit? Tons of hikes and greenbelts for biking and such. Go up to the top of South Mountain (can drive up there if you don't want to hike) and watch the sun set over the entire city. It's amazing.

I miss the NCC greenbelts

You know Canadians are big mad when they deny themselves booze. I bet he gets re-elected based on his behaviour in all of this. That’s a shame for bike lanes and health care…and greenbelts…and the Ontario Science Centre…etc

I live in an urban area that deliberately kept and incorporated greenbelts in the city planning. This juvenile bobcat lives in the wooded area next to me. I've seen the mother about as well. I don't encourage or discourage their presence. Just brings me joy that they are there and appear healthy.

Personally I think we should focus on mobility and the quality of the network of public space in the cities and the greenbelts around the cities. (2/2)

The Lāhainā injection wells US Supreme Court suit centered on the ecological damage of the County disposing wastewater into groundwater

Imaging if rather than litigating this issue to justify ecological harm, the County invested in wastewater reuse to reforest and grow native greenbelts/firebreaks

More info on what the Resource Management/Recreational area entails.

This seems to be saying these areas are very poor for development but are high value for habitat and storm water management. All that rainwater in the MK has to go somewhere…

@london.gov.uk How about Labour challenged housing companies who hoard land on a vast scale without building on it. We have no shortage of land but we have building companies driving up prices and preventing individuals from accessing land to build on. There is no need to build on greenbelts and

Thank you for doing this. Our greenbelts are one of our city's treasures.

We can't go into lockdown. (I use WE figuratively) We can't close highways. We have to assume some people will be responsible and the rest will be caught and fined. But, we can't be in every place, remote paths, greenbelts, etc. Like Covid restrictions, we try to mitigate the risk.
August 7, 2025 at 11:35 AM
the good news is Newsom already abolished the stupid regulations saying Californians may only build McMansions. We are free to build back better with affordable housing AND with greenbelts for firebreaks between the tracts
January 14, 2025 at 8:30 AM
Separating development from greenbelts and vice versa, especially areas of steep slope and non-native vegetation, should be encouraged regardless of construction and building-to-building separation.
