2026 predictions. this is the 2nd year in a row I've been making these
2026 predictions - Nvidia announces it's dropping out of the consumer market around 2028 but will still provide support for existing hardware incl. Game Ready Drivers for the forseeable future - RAM prices peak at ~750 for 32GB DDR5 RAM - Switch 2 and PS5 increase in price by 50-100 more bucks, game prices stay at 80. - Online surveillance in the style of the UK's Online Safety Act gets passed in the US and Europe - Worldwide age verification law - War in Ukraine ends - The Palestinian genocide worsens during the first half of 2026, culminating with an atrocity so big that urgent action is taken against Israel and Israel is hit with mass tariffs similar to Russia and making the BDS list even more meaningful both as a reminder of who only quit once supporting Israel became too risky but also those who chose to stay despite all the condemnation - Rich Americans and political figures travel to Israel to engage in human safaris, similar to what happened in 90s Bosnia. Tarantino is specifically named - Tim Sweeney makes statement claiming layoff and studios being closed are good, actually. someone digs up something extremely dubious he's done in the mid 2000s - Fortnite gets added on the BDS boycott list right next to Microsoft - Microsoft forces AI into Windows 11 to the point of locking settings and features behind it. Also, they will either fully remove any workaround for local accounts or add the Vista-era WGA failure conditions to local accounts (no wallpaper, no updates, no windows defender and Windows running significantly slower) - ads or genAI get pushed onto an essential life saving device leading to someone's death - King Charles passes away around May-June - Netflix and Spotify both significantly increase their pricing (either by over 50% or twice in a year), leading to backlash - Kanye West takes a long hiatus from public life to work on self - Tim Cooks retires from Apple, iPhones release every two years - iPhone Air gets discontinued in Feb-Mar - AI Crash kicks in full force by the end of the year, throwing the economy into a state of extreme instability - Shane Dawson controversy - Onision is under FBI Surveilance - Dream grooming allegation on the same level as Miniladd's - EDP445 gets physically attacked on the street, requiring to go to the hospital - Previously deplatformed online celebrity comes back with response that partially clears his name - JD Vance does actually hook up with Charlie Kirk's widow - Waymo kills more people but still gets mass adoption, rich person states Waymo and technology are worth having innocent people die over - High profile political assassination where a politician on the liberal or even leftist end of the spectrum is impacted, conservatives try to downplay it as much as they can and turn it into a meme (while still getting mad over Charlie Kirk memes). does not lead to firings whatsoever - Billboard AI Hot 100 will finally separate AI music from non AI music, but at the cost at giving AI music more credibility. iTunes/digital purchases chart might get shafted as a result due to the decline in digital music purchasing - FFXI shuts down early 2027, FFXIV goes offline on last gen at the end of the current expansion's lifecycle - Fleetwood Mac band member dies, ending decades old feud - Fand disavow Michael movie - Bill Cosby dies - Popular video game developer renames itself after their biggest game (something like Epic Games renaming itself to Fortnite Games or The Fortnite Company) - Major beloved celebrity get deplatformed and becomes a right winger born again christian to gain sympathy from right wingers - Beloved game developer get called out for sexual misconduct - Long ongoing animated series (25+ years ends after passing of major character's voice actor) - New Zelda spinoff game - Smash Bros Kart - New Animal Crossing - Sony announces discontinuation of the PS4, ending its manufacturing after 13 years, citing shortage of parts - Worldwide fast food establishment goes bankrupt - Company CEO makes a statement implying the rich should be allowed to kill poor people for sport - R.Kelly gets stabbed in jail but survives - Docuseries released will change people's perspectives on controversial artist (Justin Bieber or someone with his reputation) - Papyrus makes a return in Deltarune Chapter 5 or 6, coming in Q3 of 2026 at its absolute earliest. It’s a letdown - AI phone made by OpenAI, promising to be a fully AI phone that needs minimal user input, turns out to be another one of those Freedom Phone types - Trump erases the achievement of various civil rights leaders and ends up calling himself one for fighting against the 'woke agenda' - Eurovision 2026 is at an all time low viewership and support-wise but all time high voting count (doubling the viewership) due to organized attempts at faking support for Israel. Israel gets booed so heavily they have to use AI to make the song fully audible and yet they still win. Eurovision later announced a hiatus 'after deep reassessments and due to economical reasons' - Leaks reveal that the US Govt is surveiling influential and public trans people and treating them the same as cyber criminals - Economic crash in September. Ironically, on September 11 - Cryptobro tries to marry ChatGPT, legal precedent confirming you can marry an LLM if the company behind it approves - Nicki Minaj has a massive, Kanye-level crashout. Kanye West of all people tell her to chill out by writing a shockingly heartfelt statement - More companies revert to their pre-late 90s logos in the same way Subway and Burger King already did - The great big meme reset fails (as expected) and people pivot to just making a new wave of cringe culture but over liking popular memes from the past 2 years
