I wanted to really challenge myself with this drawing of Fern.
First off was doing the landscape, second was translating a pose effectively from @theposearchives.bsky.social and third was to draw her in only a single layer.

Fern from Frieren holding her staff and a Grimoire I labeled 782 (cause why not) wearing a one shoulder dress with a plain brown belt and flowing outwards. She's looking up longingly in the sky I originally imagined this piece to have her be in a world post journey's end with Frieren with the time of humans finally having come she would be the Great Mage Fern. To that end I also gave her sandals similar to the ones used for Flamme's design in a more summery environment. I really wanted a more fun dress for her that would be summery. A lot of the clothing and outfits for the series is based in the North where they wear clothing for warmth. Thus I wanted to bridge that gap a bit. I imagined she might still wear her Butterfly hairclip in the back but to show further mastery I gave her two X clips around her hair in the front that invoke a similar idea around butterflies. Her staff was a pain I struggled a lot with the shape and also some of the details I left out but I wanted to make it feel warm and well loved. I considered altering it or even giving her Frieren's staff for the image I had in mind but that might give the viewer too much cognitive dissonance. The background was fun to make the landscape the trees in particular making them blue and cooler to fit made a lot of sense to give some cohesion to the piece with Fern having such cool tones usually it gives her more perkiness with her dress being a bright spot. In fact in general I did it to give her such a large contrast and stand out in a meaningful way. I also tried and debated doing a couple different types of shadows for this piece. Ultimate I went for a white outline around her to go along with the border to evoke a further mystique around fairy tales and further showing how great she is. I also recreated her name using the English font as a basis and made the letters Fern out of Frieren.
