In the 90s, teen media just EXPLODED. Millenials — then called the echo boom or Gen Y — were a huge cohort with lots of expendable income. Advertisers were eager to get at them. So publishers rebranded to be more like Sassy (YM, Seventeen) or launched new titles (Elle Girl, CosmoGirl, Teen People).

As always. It's amazing to me how magazines like CosmoGirl and TeenVogue were doing deep think, critical pieces (CG covered Israel and Palestine in 2002-2003 Ffs) while mainstream media sits on their asses.

I read an article in CosmoGirl written by a trans woman who went on to compete in MMA. (This was mid 2000’s; it’s been so long, I don’t think it was Fallon Fox but it may have been.) That was the first time I had ever seen the word “trans.”

Reading joroscopes in CosmoGirl magazine when I was a kid lol Then slowly seeing it come alive in people as I learned more abaout it. Astrology felt like magic manifested in the tangible world. I was enamored. Always will be.

well there was 'Teen, and Seventeen, haha. YM definitely. Cosmogirl was another one, but it started in 1999 so it's not as good for 90s stuff specifically. you can also look for specially clothes catalogues, so like alloy, delia's, but also like...sears or lands end haha
