“This is a resilient economy. It didn’t shrink last year – it grew. Unemployment didn't skyrocket – it stabilized. But resilience is not recovery."

OCC CEO Daniel Tisch Echevarría spoke with CityNews today about the 2026 Ontario Economic Report.

Hold the line, CityNews!

Caveat: You do need a broadcast license from the CRTC in the case of CityNews to use the allocated airwaves, and also the cable companies delivering their channels. (Side argument I know, but we really have to update the rules for ISPs in Canada).

Alberta's Ministry of Education says it is blacklisting CityNews unless it agrees to the UCP government's demand to unpublish a news article and publicly apologize to them

Even advocacy outfits who like to pretend to be part of the working press, like Rebel "News"? But I agree, a licenced broadcaster should have full access. The AB govt. has other ways of lodging a complaint against the CityNews reporter, such as through the CBSC, or appealing directly to CityNews.

I'm not an overly smart guy but I feel like mayyyyyybe CityNews isn't the one who politicized this "deeply personal act" by raising an Alberta flag and posing in front of it.

Anyway, hope City stands by its guns on this. (Wish I was more confident it will be.)

First (or fifth) they came for CityNews and we did ... what?

Yes folks it's time to call this out or every publication or social service that relies on govt funding will be required to bend the knee.

We've seen it with withdrawal of funding for legal clinics

What's next?

Since he never answers journalists questions anyway, CityNews should regard this as no big loss.

This is…

Remarkable.

After CITYNews ran a story about how the separatism question in Alberta became a distraction from the charitable memorial climb that Demetrios Nicolaides did for his murdered sister…

They have been blackballed by Nicolaides Press Secretary.
