Sorry, just to tack something on last night's thoughts -- as weird and as all over the place as Avengelyne is, I still prefer it over anything genAI. This reflects someone wanting to bring an idea to life, and they did it through their labour. So despites my criticisms, I still appreciate it.

Avengelyne, perrenial sub $1 bin book that I have never picked up despite my objective love for 90s/early 00s Image-y books. So many spin off companies due to Rob and Jim LOL. AND SILVESTRI. LOL.

"Young woman fights supernatural stuff" isn't unique to Buffy and Avengelyne is noticeably lacking the Buffy quippy dialogue but I can definitely see the similarity despite this. Following buffy's success "bad girl" comics did tend to get a lot more Joss Whedon-y.

She was the creation of John Stinsman, who did a lot of the Avengelyne art early on (with Norm Rapmund inks).
You also had Lionheart, the bad girl creation of Ian Churchill who was a frequent Rob artist in the last few years of Awesome.
They were both essentially dead on arrival

Boy...sorta stuck for words. Like I like the simplification and working the cross into a bikini so she doesn't have to wear giant jewellery, but OTOH, it also feels weird for an ex-angel. Like...I almost feel like warrior nun areala's costume makes more sense that Avengelyne? And that feels weird

Like the premise in a way doesn't really matter, but the scope of how it's presented can be jaw-dropping. Adams uses scale of figures in such a way that it all feels epic, and makes it less about objectification. Avengelyne can claim more narrative space.

Funny enough Avengelyne did have a relaunch in the 2010's (around the time of the Glory and Prophet reboots by popular indie creators) where Owen Gieni gave her a very different look. A lot more distinctive than "girl in black undies" tho she still doesn't wear pants...
