Had to help someone with medicare stuff (non-gamer who complimented my playlist of kk slider airchecks) and now i almost fully understand those medicare advantage plan commercials that kept popping up in my childhood.

I'll be more social online tomorrow. Good night!

I found a use for my now-ancient 2008 iMac.... converting all of my radio tapes to digital! Macs used to have an audio-in port next to the headphone port, and you could use it for microphones or line-level audio from, say, a quality tape deck. All you need is good recording software and patience.

Z100 wasn’t a brand. It was a force. Clarke Ingram brought real Top 40 energy to New York.

been unable to locate any airchecks, but calico's 1967-1970 late night @wbai.org show, sounds of today, sounds way awesome (often leading into bob fass's radio unnameable). incredibly unlikely, but who's got the tapes?!

Vintage Airchecks of the 1970's | Old Time Radio
As the decade wore on and 1960s started to fade into the 1970s by the resignation of President Richard Nixon due to Watergate, radio started to get much crazier.

These are different types of problems.

Because BBC, idk exact particulars. Basically, in U.S. videotape started to replace newsfilm in 1970s.

Factors to consider:

Early tape was *extremely* expensive. In news, there was a lot of reuse.

U.S. for legal reasons, "airchecks" must be kept.

Years ago I was writing a novel that took place in the 80s and it was before spotify and I would find random YouTube airchecks of fm stations in the 80s or wonky streams of ones on air. Once Sirius came along I could just go 80s on 8 or the first wave channel

I do want my page to be about more than just soaps and sports, and my solution to that is to make threads of my favorite radio station airchecks. That’s how nerdy I can get. You have been warned.

I never worked at Pirate FM but I’m sad it’s coming to an end today - it was always exciting to tune in when heading to the South West.. and this jingle was a masterpiece..

This is the most obscure archive collection…

“Recordings of radio stations when those radio stations switch formats or owners. The last day of broadcast or the first day of the new format is often included.” https://archive.org/details/airchecks-formatswitches?tab=about&sort=-downloads
