#13MinutesToTheMoon
I’m re-listening to the brilliant #13MinutesToTheMoon, and I’m completely struck by Michael Collins’ comments about Apollo 11’s achievements and nationalism. He says the reception the crew had on their tour was that if felt like “we humanity, we human beings, did this wonderful thing”.

James Lovell & NASA’s Apollo 13 team: a masterclass in bearing the odds. I always try to bring the best lessons I learn back to my career in medicine. Wrote the last lines of script for #13minutestothemoon S2 in Spring 2020, after the UK’s 1st Covid wave. A kernel of hope. Thank you Jim. #AdAstra

Another great listen from the same team is #13minutestothemoon. Again, the contribution from women is illuminating. Plus of course, watch the amazing Hidden Figures. Unfortunately it looks like Trump and Musk want the women to be hidden again.

On this 50th anniversary of the explosion that afflicted Apollo 13, it was a privilege to show @RealRonHoward ‘s movie to my daughter (she didn’t know the ending). Next she wants to hear @Kevin_Fong ‘s podcast #13MinutesToTheMoon https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112384/

Bullock's character is dependant on accessing and controlling engineered niches in a hostile, lethal desert (listening to how the astronauts on Apollo13 used thew LEM as a lifeboat in space in #13minutestothemoon reminded me of this).....

Found Episode 11 of #13minutestotheMoon really moving. My dad taped the mission on reel to reel in 69, I taped the landing from this onto a Memorex D90 in 1981 and listened to it countless times as a kid. Only now I fully appreciate the achievement

It’s a beautiful night in southern uk. Deep blue velvety sky and Jupiter has risen. The lunar eclipse is going to peak in 40 minutes. I’m heading to find a hill, the penultimate episode of #13MinutestotheMoon to take me there.

Just finished Ep 9 #13MinutesToTheMoon Terrifying image of the LEM rising from supine to awake, two angular eyes each inhabited with an intelligence evolved across millions of years, skimming across the boulder strewn surface, bringing a little atmosphere of oxygen and voices.

I can’t help viewing Apollo as a human/biological/evolutionary process. We need the perspective of humans like Collins, from alone on the dark side, to get that it was more than an incredible #STEM triumph. It should be showing us the way forward. #13Minutestothemoon
