I bet he was thinking of Željava Air Base, it was built in Croatia by the USSR. Wouldn't surprise me if it was used as inspiration for that print.

Am ehemaligen Militärflughafen Željava, heute ein Mahnmal gegen größenwahnsinnige Gigantomanie.
In dem Stollensystem sollten jugoslawische Kampfjets und Soldaten einen Atomangriff überstehen können. 1991 wurde die gesamte Anlage von der Jugoslawischen Volksarmee mit Sprengstoff unbrauchbar gemacht.

Am Eingang der Flugzeug Kaverne steht ein oranges Motorrad mit den zwei Piloten, die stehen davor. Kupplungs Geber ist leer - keine Kupplung mehr.

Day 13 - we visited the Plitvice Lakes. Stunning waterfalls and oberall a great national park. Route H took 4.5 hours. After that we visited #Željava Air Base. A must see when you're around

Interessant. Den Bunker kannte ich noch nicht. Željava ist wahrscheinlich zu groß und zu verfallen, um reaktiviert zu werden, oder? Die Anlage ist meines Wissens zwar mal in Betrieb gewesen, aber nie vollständig fertig geworden.
