📢 Our sister project, WildPosh, has recently presented a new oral toxicity test for the #hoverfly species on Eristalinus aeneus.

In PollinERA, we are focusing on another hoverfly species - Sphaerophoria scripta.

Learn about the findings below 👇🏼
Hoverflies are important non-bee pollinators. Yet, they remain overlooked in risk assessment when it comes to pesticides.

WildPosh researchers are trying to fill this gap by presenting a new oral toxicity test for Eristalinus aeneus, a widespread hoverfly species.

Not too many insects around on the last day of November, but this Marmalade Hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus) was still living its best life on a late flowering Yarrow. South Wales 30/11/25 #insect #hoverfly #WildFlowerHour

Yep.
You’re right.
Not a bee!
But rather a bumblebee-mimic hover fly!
The Pellucid Fly (Volucella pellucens) to be precise.
No stinger.
Only two wings.
And again - landscape or portrait orientation - still not a bee!

A research paper on visitation rates to flowers on farms revealed this worrying fact:

‘The visiting activity of other pollinators (excluding bumblebees/honey #bees) was too low to detect general trends within and between years.’

A drone fly enjoying the fabulous flower displays down at The Beach caravan park earlier this year. Their flowers are incredible, they attract so much wildlife, which in turn attracts a me. Not sure that’s the desired effect but yano 😂🪰😍
