Everyone making noise about Olympic Skater Ilia Malinin (a white dude) pulling off the first legal backflip in competition as if he is a revolutionary skater needs to remember Surya Bonaly (black girl) completed a backflip in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and was penalized for it

The U.S. won gold in the 2022 Winter Olympics team event after Russia was disqualified for doping. Team USA defended its title after a fierce three-day battle with Japan, winning by a single point.

This is very cute www.wsj.com/sports/olymp... I never had an Olympian in one of my classes but my former department chair @isenbergumass.bsky.social, Bob Nakosteen, did have Michele Kwan as a student when he taught at Tufts.
Sorry, Professor—the Olympics Ate My Homework
Maddie Schizas forgot to turn in her college sociology paper that was due on Friday, but she had a good excuse. She was busy figure skating for Team Canada.

The US just won Olympic Gold in the team figure skating competition! The team includes: an immigrant, a daughter of immigrants, a son of immigrants, & an LGBTQ woman. America at its finest countering the hatred, bigotry, and xenophobia of Donald Trump & JD Vance.

No no no, the best skating of the next two weeks by a comfortable margin is going to be the women's event, where there are no quads

(Well, almost no quads. One don't-call-her-Russian girl doing quads, I believe...)

Ito did triple axel. It was Miki Ando who became the first woman to do a quad in 2002. Suraya Bonaly had been trying, I think, in '92

Anyway the thing is that Ilia Malinin is going to win the men's event in a cakewalk, but the women's is actually exciting
