Too many people want to waste their one and only life on Silicon Valley bullshit. And since you're competing with them for housing and such (since everything is a competition, for some reason), you are forced to waste your one and only life on Silicon Valley bullshit too.
"Nobody wants to work". Au contraire. Too many people want to work. It makes life miserable for the rest of us, having to put up the facade, having to adopt grind and hustle mindset and pretend boring business bullshit is what we want most out of life.

Very easy to be inspiring when one has received such inspiration

Our message to those dedicating themselves to the development of emergency medicine:

Make everything you do about the PATIENT, not the SPECIALTY

That is the Emergency Medicine we learned from John Hinds

The theme for today’s shift in the pediatric ED is “what can I eat that isn’t food”, featuring:
-water bottle cap
-penny
-pop can tab
-fruit fork

Last overnight shift before the holidays so I got the gift of:

✅One priapism drainage
✅Two STEMIs go to cath lab
✅Two multi-GSW trauma alerts

All in the 90 minutes before signout

My very first page I received in residency was from a nurse asking if a patient could have an order for Tylenol.

My very second page I received in residency was from the same nurse asking if I could change that Tylenol order to PO from PR.

Had an absolute win of a stroke case today!! TNK pushed within an hour of symptom onset (and < 30 minutes in the ED) taking an NIHSS of 18 all the way to 0 within an hour of hitting the door.

Forget the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let’s have the Princess Bride Cinematic Universe. Give me a swashbuckling show about the training of the next Dread Pirate Roberts, or a Tom Stoppard-esque movie about the Brute Squad.

Took care of a patient today with developmental delay. His caregiver at bedside said the patient was more comfortable with exams when someone is singing. So I sang him Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby’s “Gone Fishin’”, pausing between verses to listen to heart and lung sounds.
