Made a correction, based on this depiction of a Huastec based on Codex Fejervary-Mayer, which apparently depicts Tezcatlipoca and could very well be the Tohuenyo himself. I do feel the new bodypaint does balance out the overall illustration and compliments the Toltec princess's colorful headdress.

The princesses headdress and makeup are based on:

And last before the year ends... of my #nsfwart The legend of the Tohuenyo! The story says that Tezcatlipoca, in the guise of a chili vendor who goes by the "Tohuenyo", and is described as a Huastec looking man with a large member is seen by a princess. One day he goes to sell his chilies...

The goddess Xochiquetzal (left) holding a quetzal and grabbing a priest by the hair as he contorts himself trying to fondle an ahuiani (nahua sex worker), who is also contorted. This contortion is symbolic of the transgressive act. Based on the codex borgia.

Without going too far into a tangent I will leave that here but next time we will tie in the penis headed glyph to the famous Popol Vuh myth later. Until then, enjoy these other glyphs of some legs. Oh and yes, the first post here is also where I got my name zotz chuu and profile pic from.

The dickhead glyph mentioned earlier is believed to mean “xib’ah’ and mean something like underworld lord. It appears in the context of deities, particularly to Venus, who was a lord of the Underworld known as Hun Ahau (1 Lord). So, it could be part of a name or title for such a deity.

Another is the penis and testicle glyph which may be a logogram prefix. Penis glyphs can be seen incorporated into king’s names as one in Yaxchilan or used as a sky-penis title. Its relation to royalty is no surprise given that Maya royals practiced penis bloodletting rituals.

But it doesn’t stop there. We also have a penis logograph glyph which means “aat”. There is also a syllabic one for “me”. And there’s even the dickhead glyph more academically know as the penis-headed manikin glyph. More on that later.

That reading is still iffy but breast glyph does reappear, here are some other examples used in a male spirits name. And in a stela at Piedras Negras. At times the glyphic convention of the breast was used to code images with meaning rather than an attempt at a natural depiction of one.

Maya glyphs contain some interesting imagery I wanted to share. Maya writing is made up two kinds of glyphs: logographic (which can represent a whole word or morpheme) and syllabic (glyphs representing syllables). This glyph represents a pair of breasts (that may be syllabic “chu” glyph).

In this case however, it is used for a sexual purpose and wasn't just casual or curative bathing. On the petate is the fruit from the teccizhuacalxóchitl flower which the florentine codex was said to be used by palace women to pleasure themselves with. 7/8

They were also said to bathe frequently, including in the sweatbath (temazcal). Here she is with someone unseen in a sweatbath probably before an intimate act. These places, while usually a place for hygiene and curing purposes... 5/8

The lips and teeth were stained as the mouth was a very eroticized area. Rouge was used in the cheeks, and codex azcatitlan shows women with such a blush look around there. Red paint could also be applied to the stomach, hands, neck and breasts. The hair is dyed to give it an indigo sheen. 3/8

...and participants in important state festivals. It is also very possible that within them there were specified rankings and roles. This is based on the florentine codex, he mentions how they used axin to make their skin yellow (symbolizing fertility). 2/8

Drawing of an ahuiani, a pleasure woman in Aztec society who was in a sense a sex worker but also held a more complex role outside of their usual appearances at the market to advertise and gain work. They were also companions to warriors on campaigns, people given to the temple of Xochiquetzal 1/8

Continuing with Mayahuel, there is a curious version of the pulque that flows not just from her breasts but also from her vaginal fluids. Here, the deity Tonatiuh is getting drunk from that. This drawing was based on that. #nsfwart #myth

She is based on a few depicted in the Codex Borgia and Codex Laud

Illustration of Mayahuel and the 400 drunken rabbits in Nahua myths which suckle the milk of pulque flowing from her breasts. Pulque or octli, comes from the maguey plant, who's sap was fermented into the alcoholic drink. Mayahuel is deity of the maguey plant among people of Central Mexico.

The Maya Moon goddess and her various relations. Very old drawings from 2015 I might redo in the future. She is shown here having sexual encounters with a spider monkey, deer, Chaac (rain deity w/ green paint), Death goddess, and lecherous old deities. #moon #maya #mesoamerica #myth #nsfwart
