Thrilled to announce that we have a new preprint on bioRxiv addressing the question: Why do E. muscae-infected flies die at sunset? No spoilers :) Love to hear what you think! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Hello Fly Folks. quick note FlyBase is under duress due to termination NIH$ to Harvard and intl collabs. The hardworking folks @flybase.bsky.social are doing their darndest to ensure access to current data. For US, there will soon be a new site to donate. Please spread the word, ideas and support 🪰💪
My lab studies bacterial infections. We spend a lot of time looking at (or for) species-specific genetic and genomic databases for hosts and microbes. FlyBase is the best of all—there is literally no comparison. Its existence is under threat. Please donate.

I appreciate the offers from other scientists to help Harvard (students, labs, etc) through this attack, but what would be most helpful is for you to use your position to contact your elected representatives and make it clear this fight isn't just Harvard, it will affect you, and their districts too

One problem we face today is how few people understand the science that helps us all. Some scientists are able to explain the importance of their work. @baym.lol of Harvard University is one of them. Science is for everyone, and benefits us all more than most people know.

Gave a talk at my parents’ retirement community to describe how science is done, and what is at stake. There was a ton of interest, and anyone can do this. Get the word out about how science affects everyone. I’m happy to share slides with anyone who asks- just get in touch! youtu.be/BY_SFgi-Cig

Data is being deleted off .gov servers. There are a few initiatives going to save this data, but spread the word.

Also, the list of NOAA data sets for deletion is changing dynamically. If you're involved in data conservation efforts, you need to be checking back often.
Many data sets held by NOAA are being "retired" in may, including datasets relevant to ocean sciences and climate. If you have need for these data, or are an archivist, it would be good to download this now. PLEASE SHARE WIDELY. www.nesdis.noaa.gov/about/docume...
