Of course this isn’t to say the SANDF should be given all the money it wants. SA has competing fiscal needs, and defence is not the highest priority. But any cuts should be done through a formal policy review and framework to ensure the decline is managed & that the most crucial capabilities remain.

South Korea's government offered its assistance some time back with helping to maintain South Africa's naval fleet. Perhaps it's time to look into giving one of its industrial giants an opportunity to run the Simon's Town Dockyard for five years while having the option to attract commercial use.
