“Begrudgingly, the best thing I’ve ever driven. It’s not a car, it’s a piece of tech, where everything just works, like really good tech that Apple sells itself on - everything is working together.” youtu.be/IVk1nS6DmWg

"Regional officials in Southern California voted to impose drastic restrictions on everyday activities to reduce air pollution.
The three-phase plan would require that all cars be converted to electric power or other clean fuels by the year 2007."

California in 1989 wanted to "ban all petrol & diesel cars" by 2007, but there was no feasible alternative. Now it exists, yet they still haven't achieved their lofty goal from the 80s. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mND...

Meanwhile in Scotland, where ultra-rapid charging hubs are few and far between, this site “will increase dependency on car travel contrary to policy which seeks to address the climate emergency by applying a spatial strategy which helps reduce emissions.”

It also created these... Baked Alaska? Or should that be Florida?
Interesting phenomenon from #SnOBX: Snowdrifts along the beaches are covered with sand, which appears to be insulating it from melting with the clear skies and temps around 40. [Len Schmitz photo from Southern Shores]

Greggs is also a worrying threat to the Cornish Pasty. Most towns in England have bakeries that serve fresh Cornish Pasties, but all we have in Scotland are Greggs, with their inferior bakes, and now they are spreading like an invasive species, outcompeting the traditional shops.

The prices have gone up though! 🤨

"Although a meal deal of two pies and two servings of mash costs only around £10, the same money can buy a relatively healthy meal at Pret, a chain eatery, or a less healthy one at Greggs."

That's a sample of the recent storms that caused memorable damage, but here's a more thorough timeline of all the storms that had peak gusts > 60 mph since 2006, and a few other notable storms.

I thought this was supposed to be the pleasant platform to discuss issues. When you buy a car that the manufacturer says the battery should last longer than the car and the battery fails then you have the right to feel miffed. Have you no compassion?

That’s literally my point. They don’t sell extended warranties for 12 year old cars. 12 years is the limit. Also if I were to replace my 8 year old battery at Tesla they have quoted me exactly £20k. Repair starts from £5200 which is still pretty pricey, and can rise. The article mentions that also.
January 25, 2025 at 12:44 PM
Sure, but you can always purchase extended warranties. Also a washing machine doesn’t cost £20,000 to repair / replace.

The article says they expect a Tesla to last for 20.3 years and "with Tesla claiming that their batteries are designed to outlast the vehicle", yet Tesla's battery warranty is only for 8 years and the longest third-party warranty is 12 years! welovebatteries.com
