This gets weaponized outside of creative fields too! My partner works in healthcare. Despite handling the labor of 3 other employees, they barely ever saw a pay raise. At the same time, they felt that they couldn't just do the minimum work or outright quit, because then patients would be at risk.
this "passion tax" appears all over the place & should be talked about more. you see it in book stores and game stores all the time
