It is the biggest and most upsetting side effect of video games becoming mainstream. Same way as how most people who watch movies only see Marvel movies. Or how most anime watchers only watch the big shounen.

it's the fact that the average gamer plays mobile games. GTA and CoD. A vast majority of people who play games have never touched anything besides the absolutely biggest franchises.

Or how Palworld is a 1:1 clone of Ark. Yet both got propelled to success purely because they had a single thing that made people stick behind them. It's fascinating.

Media fatigue is such an interesting thing because a company can create what is basically a 1:1 copy of a product, and see success purely because it has 1 thing to propell it. Like how Hogwart Legacy is an insanely generic open world game with a wizard skin.

It is also currently happening with super hero movies, people hate Marvel movies but now that DC is doing the same thing people are calling it the best super hero movie ever made.

The biggest example of this is the Ubisoft open world game. It was lambasted by everyone each time Ubisoft did it, until Sony did it 3 times for 3 different games, all ended critically acclaimed, community beloved games.
