Today I am grateful for the privilege of good job and good medical care that allows me a comfortable recovery, my friends checking in on me, and especially my husband. And also this chaos muppet. She’s still figuring out how this whole thing works, but she is the best snuggler.

Wednesday we adopted a 2 yr old female pit bull mix from our county shelter. Right now, she is snuggled up next to me, taking a nap. Every so often she wakes up and checks I’m still here, then goes back to sleep. I may not know her history, but I know her future: safe, fed, loved.

Our weeklong staycation comes to its inevitable end. It hasn’t gone as I’d hoped, but not a terrible. We put an adoption hold on a dog on Sunday, but we can’t bring her home until she is spayed, hopefully next week. But I had wanted to spend this week helping her settle into our home and routine.

We just moved our couch (a very well-loved leather hand-me-down that my dad bought in 1998) to the curb in anticipation of our new couch arriving Saturday. My major project has been making our living room cozy for watching movies, playing games, and reading together this winter. Almost there.

I’ve said as much to my spouse when discussing the show. I just finished rereading all the Murderbot Diaries, and introducing Mensah’s anxiety early will do well to set the stage for the PTSD to follow. It makes her more relatable as a person.
In the books, particularly ASR, Murderbot doesn't care if its clients are sad or happy or having panic attacks. Why would it? It's got one job. It is indifferent and vaguely annoyed at the rest. It would like to go back to its cubicle and watch its shows, please.
