I can’t stand cricket. Don’t see the point. But the people who do like cricket only ever seem to be disappointed by cricket.
I can’t think of another sport where constant disappointment seems to be hard-wired in on an existential level

On ‘In The Wee Small Hours’ Sinatra croons that he’s so lonely that he has to scratch his back himself. He must have arms like an Orangutan

In further cutting-edge old man news, the Blue Note Tone Poet release of Sinatra's 'In The Wee Small Hours' is utterly gorgeous. Sounds amazing for something 70 years old

Listened to Geese as it seems to be on everyone's best of 2025 list. Wish I'd listened to some geese instead. And yes, I do realise that I am Principal Skinner here

Anyone who subscribes to Liz Truss's podcast for the LOLs is feeding the monster. She should be ignored like all other cranks and conspiracy theorists

I’m shocked to discover that Nigel Farage has always been an unpleasant individual with views that many people would consider racist

I don't Spotify because, well, evil but my son's listening age is the same as my actual age and his top artist is R.E.M. and I feel that my work here is done.

BBC1 Xmas day TV has always been shit. Always. Light entertainment hellscape. Because they know no-one is watching, they are either pissed, asleep or both. The tolerable stuff has always been on BBC2 and, of late, BBC4 anyway

As all the album of the year lists come out and to show my finger is firmly on the pulse my favourite album of the year was released in 1992. It actually angers me that I lived 33 years without knowing of its existence. Utterly beautiful. Utterly sad.

Q Magazine's list of the 50 Worst Albums is a list of albums that are broadly speaking far more interesting than *any* magazine's list of the 50 Best Albums.

I've 2 out of 100. Most of the others I've never heard of, and I thought I was quite music literate. I realise that this is me not them. Perhaps I am too old/officially dead but I would include Darren Hayman's beautiful LP about friendship & grief 'Amazing Things'
Hark! The Quietus Albums of 2025 chart is here! Prepare to be astounded, thrilled and (potentially) perplexed. tQ subscribers can also dive into selections from all 100 albums in our bumper 9-hour playlist. #tQCharts

Shocked to read that the new film of Albert Camus' The Outsider has a 'downbeat ending'.

With all the Whamageddon bollocks, it's worth pointing out that Last Christmas is an absolute load of old wank whilst its AA side Everything She Wants is an absolute banging tune.

I cannot remember a budget from any government in my entire working life that has affected my lot in life with any major significance and I think that’s probably the case for most yet every year we have the same circus. Or maybe I’m just inattentive

Labyrinth Live was a joy. From the cheers everyone Bowie appears to the shared enthusiasm of the audience, a communal act of love. That this strange, sad, none-more-80s film that hardly anyone went to see in the 80s is reassuring to me. Kudos to the guy behind me who said ‘good job it’s not in 3D.
